Powerpoint presentations in library literacy sessions can be boring if not done correctly. However, there are lots of ways to make them work and to encourage interaction. What about using twitter along with power point?

I recently discovered this tool- Power Point Twitter Tools. Although I have not yet tried it, it looks like it could be great for library literacy presentations. You download this program and it lets you use twitter to provide surveys and interaction inside your power point presentations.

Have you used this? Thoughts?

What are they using twitter for though? While some things may be obvious, with a bit of research, I noticed a few emerging trends.

Credo Reference as pictured above is using twitter to share facts from their encyclopedias and other online volumes along with a few other things.

Proquest as viewed above is using twitter as a way to update more frequently instead of using email. They are sharing information about webinars, training, new databases and more.

I also noticed that Ebsco is not on twitter or at least if they are, I could not find them. Since they are the largest library database provider at many libraries, this was quite surprising. Maybe they will jump on board sooner.

If you are a library vendor, how are you using twitter? If you work for a library, how do you want your library vendors to use twitter?

Here are some things they did that any library can do albeit possibly on a smaller scale.

1. Posted archive collections combined with those from the Utah Historical Society on Flickr.

2. Created a Twitter account to promote their library activities and collections to their followers.

3. Created a library youtube channel and uploaded some of their unique archived clips including some of high interest to all Americans such as a clip of the late President John F. Kennedy at the airport in Salt Lake City, Utah.

How can your library implement one or more of these ideas?

A recent article in the school library journal talks all about using twitter for micro blogging with your library. Twitter has become very popular recently with all kinds of users. What about sending a tweet to your patrons who have overdue books? Or tweeting library announcements? Although this may seem like a good idea, with the sheer numbers of tweets being sent out, how can you make sure your tweets are read? Furthermore, are a large number of your patrons using twitter? maybe or maybe not?
